Despegue y aterrizaje, pertenece al caza de cuarta generación, con un radio de combate de más de 1.000 kilómetros y crucero supersónico. El 18 de diciembre de 2007, el primer F-35B Joint Strike Fighter salió de la línea de producción en las instalaciones de Lockheed Martin en Fort Worth, Texas.
