The Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) program was initiated to modernize and eventually supersede the aging fleet of M939 series 5-ton trucks used by the U.S. military. By the late 20th century, as military operations became more global and complex, the need arose for a logistics vehicle that was more reliable, highly mobile, and possessed superior off-road capability to effectively deliver supplies and personnel across varied and challenging terrains. The MTVR family, particularly the ubiquitous MK23 Standard Cargo Truck, developed by Oshkosh Corporation, was the perfect answer to this critical requirement.
