Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey is a tilt-rotor aircraft jointly designed and manufactured by Bell and Boeing. The tilt-rotor has the vertical lift of a helicopter. It has the advantages of higher speed, longer range and lower fuel consumption of fixed-wing propeller aircraft, with a speed of up to 500 kilometers per hour. The V-22 design, based on Bell's XV-3 and XV-15, began development in the early 1980s and entered service with the U.S. Marine Corps in 2007 to replace the well-established CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter (CH-46 Sea Knight) rescue and combat missions. Since 2009, the US Air Force has also begun to deploy a derivative version dedicated to the Air Force . The V-22 has been deployed by the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force to Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan and Libya for combat and rescue missions.
